PARKS & NATURE
There are five public parks in Pinecrest for residents to choose from. Suniland Park and Evelyn Greer are the two largest. They are equipped with recreation centers as well as athletic fields for soccer, football, and basketball. Residents who rather spend the day on the lake can visit Veterans Wayside Park as well.
Then, in the 1930s Franz and Louise Scherr developed the iconic Parrot Jungle, a bird refuge where birds could roam free and the public could visit and learn about the birds, plants and trees. Parrot Jungle has since relocated to Miami Beach and the beautiful grounds are now Pinecrest Gardens, Community Center and Public Library. Here, residents can exercise in the fitness center, take stimulating classes, attend concerts and art shows, watch the kids play soccer or come to the weekly Farmer’s Market. Every Sunday locals gather to shop for artisan baked goods, organic produce, herbs and spices or simply meet up with friends and catch up on local news.
